Why RNG PlasticsÂŽ Exists

The world has spent decades trying to solve plastic waste. It hasn’t worked.

Plastic is extraordinarily useful—and extraordinarily persistent. Mechanical recycling has an important role, but it cannot economically or practically handle most plastic waste. Recycled materials can cost more, perform differently, require reformulation, and degrade through repeated recycling cycles.

Meanwhile, the overwhelming majority of plastic still reaches its end of life without becoming new plastic.

We believed there had to be another path.

What We Built

A different approach to circularity

RNG Plastics combines patented materials science, independent testing and verification, and digital traceability to create a practical pathway for conventional fossil-fuel plastics to become renewable.

Manufacturers incorporate only 0.5% of our proprietary EPS Resin™ into compatible plastics during normal production. The resulting RNG Plastics retain the performance manufacturers require while enabling controlled conversion at end of life in regulated landfill environments.

The resulting biogas can be captured, processed into Renewable Natural Gas, and returned to the energy and materials economy—creating a circular pathway that works with the infrastructure society already has.

Founder

Bob DeMatteis is an inventor and internationally recognized expert in renewable plastics whose work has resulted in more than 40 U.S. patents covering advanced plastic materials and environmental technologies.

He founded RNG Plastics to commercialize a fundamentally different approach to plastic circularity: preserving the performance and utility of conventional plastics while enabling a renewable pathway at the end of their useful life.

DeMatteis is the inventor behind RNG Plastics’ proprietary EPS Resin™ technology, which enables compatible fossil-fuel plastics to undergo controlled conversion in regulated landfill environments, where resulting biogas can be captured and processed into Renewable Natural Gas.

His work brings together decades of materials innovation around a singular objective: making plastic compatible with a truly circular materials economy.

Co-Founder

Bob Kitzberger is a technology entrepreneur, software architect, and AI product leader with more than 25 years of experience building complex data platforms and bringing new technologies to market.

As co-founder and Chief AI Officer of TerrAssure AI, Kitzberger is building the digital trust infrastructure behind RNG Plastics—connecting manufacturers, materials, supply chains, testing, certification, environmental evidence, and sustainability claims into a unified platform.

His career spans enterprise technology and entrepreneurship, including product and technology leadership roles at IBM and HERE Technologies and the creation of high-growth eCommerce businesses that generated more than $100 million in revenue during their first three years.

Kitzberger holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego and an MBA from the University of Oregon.
